Farm Fresh Blueberries

As our blueberry season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on this year’s crop. It was an outstanding year for our blueberry patch, but it wasn’t always easy!

To understand why we’re so excited about our blueberries this year, let’s take a look back at what happened last season…

We barely harvested any blueberries last year because squirrels, birds, and bunnies would venture in through the net that covers our bushes. They would chew holes in the base of the net, allowing everyone to get in! We would spend two hours repairing the net, and the very next morning we would find 5 bluebirds, a squirrel, and a bunny having a party!

Earlier this year, we addressed the problem by installing a skirt of mesh screen along the sides of the enclosure, with a 1 foot ledge of mesh folded outward on the ground. This deterred our wild friends from feasting on this delicious seasonal treat!
