April and the Miracle of Spring

We know it’s coming, yet every year it feels like new. A kind of music starts to play, and at VF we are filled with wonder!

The chances of frost melt away with the snow, and as the days get longer and warmer, shades of green slowly return, birds sing their precious songs, sprouts and buds gain momentum… petals unfurl, and life begins to buzz! All of a sudden, the farm is revived!

Tulips and tree blossoms unfold with pastel hues, and the bees that were until now humming inside their hives come pouring out to fetch sweet nectar and pollen for their brood.

The hens begin to lay plenty of colorful eggs in different tints; nourished by wild bugs and fermented grains, their eggs develop deep orange yolks and firm whites: a sign of the flock’s healthy appetite. 

Like busy squirrels scurrying around, we work around the clock taking advantage of every dry weather window to hastily prepare the garden for a season of growth. Rows of seeds we lovingly placed into the earth’s warm arms sprout, reaching up towards the infinite sky.

Hearty lettuces, tender peas, meaty spinach, and tiny carrot seedlings embrace the cool spring air and the golden sun; while grasping onto dark, moist soil, becoming vibrant food for us all.

Seemingly magic, springtime awakens all of our senses to find beauty and abundance everywhere we look, and we’re happy to share it with you!
